FAMILY

Iryna worked as a medical sister in Luhansk. Colleagues and patients respected her for her professionalism and kindness, and at home, a loving husband and children were waiting. “Happy family” - people used to say about them. But one day a heart attack made her a widow. Iryna devoted all her heart to growing her son a respectful person. After a while she met Mykola, he became a support for them both. Oleh called his stepfather Dad. To enter the military lyceum was Dad’s idea. In 2014, when separatists took Luhansk, the family decided to leave the city. By that time Oleh introduced his fiancée to the parents, so she left with them. Oleh stayed doing his service in the border patrol in the war zone. On September 25, 2014, Russian Army helicopters and artillery, without hiding, shelled our border guards on Ukrainian land. Four died. Oleh one of them. Only the news about a coming Oleh’s baby shed a beam of light. In spring, little Albina was born; father loved this name very much. Now she is the only sense of life for her grandmother, from whom the war took everything: her home, her only son.

Mom, why did you grow me so soft? - Oleh used to ask a little crossed, as a man needed to be tough and decisive. He had enough willpower indulging, since his five, in gymnastics, and later in wrestling. He loved friends, school, his cat Hrishka, who he kissed first when coming after school. He was a dreamer and loved life.
After the military lyceum, he wanted to continue studies in the Academy of Border Service.
But the turmoil changed his plans, Oleh went to guard the border. He felt pain when Luhansk was occupied; he could not understand how Russian border guards, with whom they exchanged greetings each watch, could open the fire. They could… In his short life, Oleh had real a love and remain his mark on the Earth, his little daughter, a little replica of him.
