A few years of occasional dates between studies and service, and one year in marriage – this is the love story of Ivan and Viktoria. The couple met when Viktoria studied in Korets. “I have always said I would never be with a military man. Ivan was lucky he was in civil garment’, she tells.
Their wedding ceremony was very simple, no wedding dress, no hundreds of guests. “One year we lived in a civil marriage. In May 2014, Ivan came home for 4 days, this was our last meeting. It was then, when he proposed to get married, he must have felt something, wanted to protect me and our son. I was in the late months of pregnancy; he called every day two times – morning and evening, whatever happened’, Viktoria sais. Doctors said she needed a Caesar cut.
“I called Ivan and heard the shooting. There is shooting, he says. And I reply, some shoot, some give birth”. In a few hours after the operation, I sent him the son’s photo; he was just happy! We chose the name when we just started dating. We decided if we had a son, to name him Yehor. When we made the first US test, I said: surname on you, sportsman on me. He was longing for the son’s birth. It must have been on purpose that Yehor was born early – Ivan could see his photo although he could not hold him”.
“Our friends told me about Ivan’s death: he was buried in a cellar, and the other guys could not help him for a heavy shelling. I could never imagine I would be a widow in my 19”.
