FAMILY

"Before Vasyl’s death I did not receive his usual text message: "Everything is fine". But at night I had a dream in which he said "I’m wounded..."

Vasyl was the best man in the world. It is hard to realize that he is not in this world any more. Sensitive, gentle, loving", this is the first thing the wife Valentyna Buyalo says about her husband Vasyl Fitskalynets, a fallen Ukrainian Army soldier of 53th detached mechanized brigade.

Valentyna Buyalo worked at the Department of Labour. She raised Pavlo, the son from her first marriage. "The girls at work decided to find a match for me, they did not want me to be alone, without a love and support of a man, and for the boy’s raising it is also important to have a man near. The only candidate was my would-be husband Vasyl. At first glance, we liked each other. Six months later, we started to live together, and most importantly, my son Pavlo loved him as his own father", says Valentyna. The woman says that in 10 years of their marriage, they had not officially registered their marriage: "We did not believe that the seal would bind us. We have long been tied to each other and would not change anything".

After three years, the couple had a son Bogdan. The birth had complications. So after that, for a long time Valentyna had to stay in hospital. Her husband, Vasyl Fitskalynets took the education and care of the children: Pavlo and Bohdan. "I for ever will be grateful to him for it. School, lessons, and more. Vasyl never separated the boys in "your" and "mine". He brought up both of them as his own. Fishing, nature, skating. They always did everything together”, says the wife of the fallen Ukrainian soldier.

Since the beginning of Russian intervention in the Eastern Ukraine, Vasyl Fitskalynets could not stay at home and just watch what was happening in the East. So he decided to go to defend the country and his family. "I was very worried for him, but I always supported him in everything. I knew that the real men do so. We had an agreement with him; we talked on the phone every day: morning, noon and evening. And at night, he always texted me "Everything is fine", says the wife of the Ukraine Army soldier.

The woman recalls that before Vasyl’s death she did not receive his usual text message: "Everything is fine". But at night she had a dream in which he said "I’m wounded..." In the morning, after a terrible sleep, Valentyna could not calm down and decided call him first, but he did not answer. "We had an agreement that if he could not talk, he cancelled my call, but now the phone was ringing and that’s it. He would never make me worry. He knew I was pregnant. I raised all Yavoriv polygon, where his friends remained. I realized I did not know where exactly he was in the war zone, in which brigade he was. I asked our friend, a chaplain to look for Vasyl among the killed. All my colleagues at work knew what happened, but they were afraid to tell me about it because I was in a regional hospital. I did not sleep that night. And in the morning June, 2, my sister’s husband told me that my beloved Vasyl was gone. I cried, I just went crazy", says Valentyna.

Vasyl Fitskalynets, a Ukraine Army soldier was killed by a sniper bullet near the village Zaitseve, Donetsk region, east Ukraine, the zone of Russia-Ukraine war.

The family of the fallen Ukrainian soldier did not receive any help or compensation from the state. However, the woman’s health gives up, she needs treatment, and the children need psychological rehabilitation. Let us take care of the children and the wife of the deceased Vasyl Fitskalynets until the time when the state will be able to meet its obligations.
