FAMILY

"Dad has flown into the sky and now he is our guardian angel..."

Oleg and Tetiana have known each other since schooldays. They studied together and were friends. Later on, their friendship turned into love and marriage, when the young people decided to join their lives. Oleg Koval since childhood dreamed of becoming a military man. He always liked uniform and order, and especially he liked his uncle who was a soldier and the boy wanted to be like him. Although his parents were not particularly happy about the choice of their son, still they supported him unanimously. "Oleg, joined the Army Academy, and I had already finished school, so he took me with him, we got married and lived together at the time", says Tetiana the wife of a fallen Ukraine soldier.

The woman said that Oleg really wanted a baby. And when the couple had a girl they called her Sofia, Oleg was incredibly happy. "He literally shone with happiness. He tried to spend as much time with her daughter as he could. He liked to amuse her, helped me with everything", says Tetiana about Oleg, a participant of Russia-Ukraine war.

Since the beginning of Russia’s aggression in east Ukraine , Oleg Koval applied to sent him to the East, he fact believed that all those who serve give oath to Ukrainian people have to go to the front as soon as possible to stop the Russian offensive. "I was certainly not happy with the decision. But I understood that otherwise it could be. And Oleg reassured me by saying not to worry and promising that all will be fine", says the wife of the deceased Ukraine soldier.

Oleg Koval’s brigade was deployed in the area of Debaltseve, Donetsk region, Russia-Ukraine war zone, east Ukraine. "He phoned me and always said that he was alright, although I always heard the shots", said Tetiana.

Oleg Koval was killed by enemy sniper bullets. By Ukraine President Decree number 282/2015 of 23 May 2015 for "personal courage and professionalism found in the defence of national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the military oath", he was awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III degree (posthumously).

The state helped the family of the deceased soldier with the compensation and housing. But it never returns their beloved husband and father to 4-year-old Sofia, who is still waiting for him. "My daughter often asks me if I left the keys for daddy, so that he could open the door when he came. I told her that daddy went to heaven, and he is now our guardian angel. But is hard difficult to believe for a child. Sofia is always waiting for him to pick her from the kindergarten", barely holding back her tears sais Tetiana Koval, wife of Ukraine soldier. Now Sofia needs toys and children's clothing, and also her mother wants to make repairs in her room. Do not stay aside and help the child of the fallen Ukraine soldier.
