FAMILY

"With the death of Ivan, it feels like parts of our hearts were torn..."

"He was an honest, fair and kind man. Always tried to help people never thinking how he would benefit from it. He was the best husband and father. And sometimes I think there are no more people like him", says Zoriana recalling her deceased husband, volunteer Ivan Sydor, Russia-Ukraine war veteran.

Ivan Sydor worked in the unit of transport police at the railway node. For 20 years of service, he had numerous acknowledgments and letters, and more – he was very much respected by the villagers and if something happened to someone, Ivan always tried to help. Over the congregation, he was elected deputy to the village council. "My husband always cleaned debris in his district, did landscaping. Next door to us, there lived a poor large family, so Ivan's decision was to take them into care. We brought them food, firewood. And when our village found a dead man’s body that had been lying three days on the street and no one was to care, Ivan first volunteered and took the dead body to the morgue", recalls the wife of the deceased Ukraine Army soldier.

Since the beginning of Russian aggression in Donbas, east Ukraine, Ivan Sydor dedicated his efforts and free time to the assistance to the mobilized. "Our village was the place, from which the military who had trained in Yavoriv ground, departed to the East, to the conflict area. So my husband and I fed our guys, collected money for them, supported", tells Zoriana.

But Ivan could not stay at home long, even volunteering and supporting the Ukraine Army soldiers. The woman recalls that he had always told her he had to go to war, because all men had been there, in the East, and he was ashamed to sit at home. But for this, Ivan had to go to the service in the Interior Ministry special unit Griffon and volunteered to go to the East. The man stayed in the war area only 5 days and died tragically.

"I was at work, I called Mary and heard my daughter crying. I asked her what had happened, and she told me that her friend went next door told her that something happened to our dad", says the wife of the deceased Ukraine soldier holding back tears. The examination showed that Ivan Sydor died as a result of a gunshot wound in his lungs. Today, the investigation of the incident continues because it happened in the place of the army unit deployment where Ivan served.

"With the death of Ivan, it feels like a part of our hearts was torn. Life turned upside down. I retired from work because I had to look after our son, he is sick and needs attention and care. It is now so difficult", says the wife of the deceased Ukraine Army soldier.

Now, Zoriana Sydor, along with 16-year-old Mary and 9-year-old Zakhariy live in the house that Ivan restored. They need to insulate the house and need to change the old ceiling. The family received a little help from the regional budget, but they got no state aid, because the investigation of the death of Ivan Sydor is still ongoing. Mary and Zakhariy are missing their daddy, and often speak about him. They know that they will never be able to see him and hug again. Help the kids of the brave man begin to experience life.
